GREED
This months rant is about GREED. Remember that
movie "Wall Street" when Michael Douglas said "Greed is Good"? Well they took it
to heart and we, the common working middle class, suffer for it. They don't even
try to hide their obscene compounding of money any more, they flaunt it in our
faces and say "What are you going to do about it?" Look at the oil company
profits going up like 600 per cent [all figures quoted are approximate, I don't
have exact 'cause they keep going up and up and up], you want to talk about
manipulation. Isn't it interesting that before every holiday when people are
going to be driving there is suddenly an oil shortage and the prices go up.
Coincidence? Or you get a cost of living increase of 2% and your insurance goes
up 4% the very same day, except this year the 2% was countered with a 15% jump
on their part...blatant GREED! And there is nothing we can do about it. That's
like going into a convenience store and bitching to the person behind the
counter about the gas prices, or doing a drive-by shooting of your insurance
agents place of business. All that will happen is you will go to jail as a nut
case and the people responsible are totally unaffected. They are so isolated in
their golden towers that even the government can't get to them[which by the way
are one in the same unfortunately]. Money buys power! About ten years ago the
ratio of CEO's income to that of the workers was 40 to 1. In other words for
every dollar the worker made the CEO got 40. I just recently saw a report where
today it is like 800 to 1...wickedly GREEDY! Another interesting ratio is for
every $10. brought in by an insurance company, only .25 is needed to operate, in
other words $9.75 is pure profit! They have the highest income to outlay margin
of any business [maybe that's why the top three corporations in America are all
insurance companies]. I recently talked to an insurance agent and he told me
that their profits are even greater than that! We are all on this treadmill
chasing money for ourselves and everyone else is trying to get it from us, dog
eat dog world! I look outside right now to a gentle snowfall and notice in the
world of nature money doesn't exist. Wow, what a concept! To think that to the
birds in the air or the whales in the oceans everything is provided for without
the sinister power of gold. Are we not Gods creatures also? How did we screw it
all up so that we are a slaves to something WE created. We did it to ourselves.
I think every war has it's basis in GREED, "I want what you got, and I'm going
to kill you to get it!" In today's society the measure of a man is how much
money he's got. You say "No way, we aren't that superficial", at least that's
what we tell ourselves. If you don't have any money your options are pretty
limited. You can stay at a homeless mission for a couple of days until they
throw you out and that's about it, you die, no one cares, "he didn't have any
money so therefore he has no worth, just a burden on our budget". As Pink Floyd
said in one of their lyrics "For what of the price of tea and a slice, the old
man died." So using this scenario of if a person is worthless because of lack of
funds compare a minister who spends all his time helping others with no monetary
compensation, to a heroin dealer in Harlem with his gold chains and tricked out
Cadillac. Who is the superior individual? Or Dick Cheney to Mother Theresa for
example. These gross comparisons show us what really matters. Let us rise above
the bottom line! When we pass from this world [and we all will] our money won't
mean squat! You don't see a U-Haul at a funeral. The only bank account you can
take with you is the one you build up by giving. When you are in that box people
will remember you for what you gave, not what you took. Did you enrichen others
lives by your presence, or did you suck all you could from them to get a bigger
stack of coins? I know of alot of people who do just that and brag about it to
others "Boy, I sure screwed that guy, Ha,Ha,Ha!" Laugh it up, Chuckles! Let's
see you tell your maker all about it when the time comes, I don't think it will
sound so funny then. Sadly, I have to acknowledge money is the power our
physical bodies exist under right now, but we don't have to give it our soul!
"Money is the root of all evil they say, But you'll find they are not giving any
of it away!" Strive to be the type of person that can't be bought, Keep it
Real!! HOOTIE-HOOT!! Wiz
